Tips for the month

Problem: Storing extra wine bottles

Solution: We had a folding side table that had a space underneath it for storage. Dale suggested shelves and I designed it to hold 4 wine bottles and still allowed it to be closed up if you need to.

This table is sometimes standard in most motorhomes and folds down to get it out of the way. Storages was possible inside the table. But it feasible with no shelving.

Dale thought of putting her extra wine bottles for future use here instead of having them under the couch. I purchased pre-cut oak 1x2's from Home Depot and I made the the shelving. The front trim has a space in it to allow you to fold up the leg of the table and close the lid. We leave the table open all the time while traveling. So, I  made sure that the bottles did not hit each other by using small strips up the center. I then included small bungee cords towards the middle of the bottles. Even though they are secure enough.

This is how it looks closed up. All neat and out of the way. Along with the project I built a thin bookcase along the wall to hold our photo albums

Problem: Coldness from the glass still comes from the windows in the motorhome, even though they are dual pane.

Solution: Denny found a easy to install clear window film that really cuts cost in LP fuel usage. We had to have the day shades down when we sat by the window, because the glass still had a coldness to sit by it. Now we can be sitting by it in the winter weather and enjoy looking outside, without feeling the coldness

A 5 household window kit cost Denny 8 dollars and it did 6 RV windows.

The tape goes a long way. What's nice is that it did not leave any residue on the baked enamel metal trim of the windows after removing it last spring for the winter in Pennsylvania. It's not advisable to put it on a regular painted surface.

Just run the tape along the metal edge and cut little pieces for the corners.

When putting on the shrink wrap film you don't have to worry on pulling it tight or getting it perfect. Just make sure its attached all around the sides.

Use a hair dryer and heat up the film so it pulls it tight and get all the wrinkles out of it.

The finished result is a clear view from the cold winter elements. This is especially useful for the RV's that have a window at the head of the bed. This is also safe for RV's that have an emergency exit window. It would be easy to rip away the film in an emergency!

Problem: Spices to cook and not enough room to store them in the limited cabinets of a motorhome.

Solution: I took all the spices and put them in ziplock bags. Labeled them and put them in a tupperware container. When I go to cook a recipe. I pull out what I need and return it all when I finish.

I found out that the best way to label them is on the top flap of the bag.

By using a sharpie permanent pen, it helps make a easy to view label.
